Craft is something that belongs to you in a way that nothing else does. You may share your passion with someone else, and provide inspiration for each other, but at it's very core it is a private joy that feeds your soul. It is there for you on the sunny days, the rainy afternoons and in the middle of the night when your worries are keeping you awake. At the same time it can be restful, meditative and exciting.

Why write a blog..........

I don't really know why I thought it would be fun to start a blog to be honest.  There are many fab card making blogs around, so what is the point of another one?  I guess one of the things I've been thinking about is the meaning of craft in our lives, whether you have plenty of time for it or you grab your craft time on the run.  Part of who we are goes into the things that we make, and is probably an essential part of creativity.  I have a good friend who says that making something is like cooking a meal.  You can get the same thing at a restaurant but it tastes better when it is home made because there is love in it.

For me craft helps my life most of the time.  When I am feeling good it kind of celebrates that, and when I am feeling a little blue it takes my mind off my worries and distracts me.  Also, taking time out to create helps keep me sane when everything is crazy busy or so complicated it makes my eyes cross.  Of course, sometimes it's just plain old fun.

What does it add to your life? =^..^=

  1. What a great idea to write a blog to showcase your lovely cards. Yay! Hmmm, craft. It's funny cause I find the word 'craft' doesn't really seem to convey what goes on when we create something. It seems too light in a way, maybe a little trivial, but I find lots of things related to the work of women seems to come across this way. But I know we need a generic name to cover all the handicrafts we have been associated with making over the centuries. For me, I create things basically because I need to. There's an inner push - I believe humans are innately creative beings. And I love working with my hands - there's an 'energy' when we physically make something. Craft keeps me centred and sane and helps me express love towards my nearest and dearest. I couldn't live life without it. Life can be pretty boring at times as it's all routines and responsibility, crafting helps the right side of my brain party like it's 1999. Kris

  2. Hi Kris,

I am with you on the inner push thing. For me if I don't do some kind of handicraft on a regular basis it's almost like a little light goes out inside....sounds ridiculous! But it definitely helps keep me sane. Sure it can be challenging when you just can't work out why something isn't 'right' with whatever you're working on. But for me that can be really good, because I either find a solution YAY! Or I decide 'you know what, this isn't working and it's okay not to continue with it' which is very freeing!! Here's to partying like it's 1999. Deb
